PART TWO: Living Into Our Values

  1. "Daring leaders who live into their values are never silent about hard things." Sometimes we tend to proclaim values that are not necessarily always true about ourselves, most times the "sound-good" words are a list of things we would like to be but are not c u r r e n t l y and sometimes some of us are just simply deluded as to who we actually are and/or lying to ourselves as well as anyone who might ask the question, "Who are you?", or if they tell you to "Describe yourself". For example, Jamaicans are held to the shackles of certain descriptive words/phrases like; JOVIAL, EASY-GOING, DOWN-TO-EARTH. And if you really want to put that statement to the test ask three of you friends/family members and I would bet any money that at least one will say one of these words/phrases. But can we say everyone who claims that they are of certain values are truly of those values or is it CAP? It is absolutely critical to attach values to your name that really hold deep meaning in the fabric of your being, not just values that people have 'told you that you have' because in reality does it register in your mind that this value defines you? Can you firmly agree to the fact that everything I do is in accordance to this value? Can I recall moments where I displayed this value? Have I stood true to this value even under pressure and even if you have not been put to the test as yet are you willing to? If and only if the answers to those questions are yes then you can truly lay claim to that value.
